AdZU Freshmen Dominate the Citywide Eliminations in the Philippine Statistics Quiz (PSQ) and Win the Regional Championship

As part of the National Statistics Month celebration last October, the PSA–Regional Statistical Services Office IX successfully held the 29th Philippine Statistics Quiz (PSQ) – Citywide Eliminations. The Ateneo de Zamboanga University (AdZU) Team—composed of freshmen Francis Adrian P. Arcillas (BS Mathematics), Jireh Niño Salagoste (BS Accountancy), and Aldyn Qhair Abdula (BS Computer Science)—proudly represented the university. Jireh secured 1st place, while Francis claimed 2nd runner-up, earning both of them spots in the regional championships.

The 29th PSQ Regional Championship took place on November 6, 2025, at the LM Metro Hotel, Zamboanga City. The event highlighted the outstanding statistical knowledge and analytical skills of the brightest college freshmen in the region—qualities exemplified by Jireh and Francis, who were among the top three winners in the Citywide Eliminations. The three represented the Zamboanga division against other divisions in ZamPen. Francis emerged as the regional champion and will proudly represent the region in the National Finals on December 1, 2025, in Metro Manila.

This remarkable achievement would not have been possible without the guidance of their coach, Mr. Dante Partosa, faculty member of the Mathematics Department under the College of Science, Information Technology, and Engineering (CSITE). Their success is not only a reflection of their intellect but also of their discipline, perseverance, and steadfast dedication to academic excellence. Facing some of the region’s brightest competitors, they showcased not only their mastery of statistical concepts but also their composure, confidence, and ability to perform under pressure.

CSITE proudly congratulates you and is excited to witness the same remarkable energy—perhaps even stronger—at the national finals. As we honor this accomplishment, we hope it encourages more students to take on challenges, pursue excellence wholeheartedly, and believe in their potential to lead and succeed in their respective disciplines.
