ACES Corner | Strengthening Disaster Resilience through Collaboration

August 11, 2025 – A courtesy visit and technical coordination meeting was successfully held at the PAGASA Mindanao – PRSD Office in El Salvador, Misamis Oriental. Present during the meeting were the Weather Services Chief Ms. Anianita R. Fortich, MGA of the Mindanao PAGASA Regional Services Division Mindanao PRSD together with the PAGASA Hydrological Division personnel.

The discussion centered on the Radio Telemetry Module Development with Localized ALeRTO Early Warning System, a project funded by DOST-IX and implemented by Ateneo de Zamboanga University. The project aims to enhance real-time environmental monitoring, improve flood early warning capabilities, and strengthen disaster preparedness in vulnerable LGUs across Mindanao.

This collaboration directly advances the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals by creating multi-faceted impact. We support SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) by enhancing disaster risk reduction to build more resilient communities. Our work simultaneously strengthens SDG 13 (Climate Action) through the implementation of robust early warning systems and adaptive measures. Furthermore, the very nature of this initiative, which fosters collaboration between academic, governmental, and local stakeholders, is a direct contribution to SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).

We extend our gratitude to PAGASA Mindanao PRSD and the Hydrological Division for their valuable insights and support in ensuring safer and climate-resilient communities.
