ACES Corner | Ocular Visit and Monitoring at ADZU’s Adopted Watershed in Pasonanca Natural Park

Last January 24, 2026, the ACES team conducted an ocular visit and monitoring at ADZU–Adopted Watershed located within the Pasonanca Natural Heritage Park. This watershed serves as the main source of potable water and a designated Key Biodiversity Area in Zamboanga City.

This community-based reforestation initiative, implemented under the DENR’s Adopt-a-Watershed Program, aims to rehabilitate 8 hectares of degraded forestland. The monitoring activity focused on assessing the survival of previously planted trees and identifying potential areas for future tree growing activities, reaffirming ADZU’s sustained commitment to biodiversity conservation and watershed protection.

Our work is aligned with key United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It contributes to SDG 15 (Life on Land) through the restoration of forest ecosystems and protection of biodiversity within a critical watershed. Our efforts also support SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation) by safeguarding the primary source of potable water for Zamboanga City via watershed conservation. Finally, our initiatives promote SDG 13 (Climate Action) by enhancing climate resilience through integrated reforestation and disaster risk reduction technology.
