ACES Corner | Monitoring Coastal Restoration Efforts in Simariki Island

On October 15 and 20, 2025, the Ateneo Center for Environment and Sustainability conducted a monitoring visit for the C3P3 Project (Care for Communities and Creation – Pillar 3) in Simariki Island, Talon-Talon — a key coastal site under the initiative.

The C3P3 Project continues to promote coastal restoration and native tree planting alongside the Sama Bangingi community, who play a vital role in sustaining the biodiversity and natural resources of their ancestral domain.

This two-day monitoring ensured that the planted seedlings are thriving and that local efforts remain strong in protecting the coastal ecosystem.

Guided by Laudato Si’, this activity reaffirms the project’s commitment to environmental stewardship rooted in community empowerment and intergenerational responsibility.

Our impact is strategically aligned with key United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We are dedicated to SDG 14: Life Below Water by protecting vital coastal ecosystems and marine biodiversity. Our work also contributes to SDG 13: Climate Action by enhancing the resilience of coastal communities to climate-related impacts. Furthermore, we advance SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities through our core commitment to supporting Indigenous-led management of their ancestral coastal lands and waters.

This initiative is made possible by the dedication of Indigenous partners who continue to lead in nurturing their environment for a more sustainable and resilient future.
