August 19, 2025 – A Capacity Building session for the Subanon/Subanen Indigenous People was conducted at the Tuburan Tribal Hall, Barangay Limpapa as part of the C3P3 SIEMBRA Project. The activity aimed to equip the Subanon community with knowledge and skills to strengthen their role in environmental stewardship and sustainable ecosystem management within their ancestral domains.

The session focused on enhancing the capacities of the Indigenous Peoples to apply both their traditional ecological practices and modern approaches in sustainable forest management, biodiversity protection, and climate resilience.

By empowering the Subanon with these competencies, the initiative seeks to ensure that local communities can lead long-term efforts in rehabilitating upland areas and safeguarding their environment for future generations.

The session was facilitated by Ms. Welma Omboy, Director of the Ateneo Center for Community Extension Services (CCES), who discussed the Indigenous Peoples’ Rights Act (IPRA Law) alongside key concepts on environmental conservation and protection.

Through this engagement, the Subanon community was able to gain a deeper appreciation of their rights as Indigenous Peoples and their critical role as guardians of their ancestral lands. Our impact aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by contributing to SDG 15: Life on Land through the restoration of upland forests and the prevention of biodiversity loss. Furthermore, it advances SDG 13: Climate Action by strengthening the community’s resilience against climate change impacts. Finally, by promoting community-led environmental management, this initiative directly supports SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities.

This project is made possible through the dedication of partner communities who stand as frontliners in nurturing the land and sustaining biodiversity.
