ACES Corner | Bamboo Growing Activity in Barangay Bunguiao

August 16, 2025 – The ACES team conducted a Bamboo Growing Activity in San Isidro, Barangay Bunguiao, reinforcing our commitment to ecological restoration and sustainable community development.

Bamboo plays a crucial role in combating soil erosion, absorbing carbon dioxide, and providing sustainable livelihood opportunities. This initiative reflects our dedication to environmental stewardship, inspired by the principles of Laudato Si’, caring for our common home and ensuring a greener future for generations to come.

Through this initiative, we are committed to restoring degraded lands by cultivating fast-growing and resilient bamboo species. This approach not only rehabilitates the soil but also significantly strengthens climate resilience by leveraging bamboo’s natural capacity for carbon sequestration. Furthermore, the project is designed to empower local communities by providing them with the tools and knowledge for sustainable resource management, ensuring long-term environmental and economic benefits.

This project directly contributes to key United Nations Sustainable Development Goals by creating synergistic impact. Our work in restoring degraded lands with resilient bamboo actively promotes sustainable ecosystems and biodiversity, supporting SDG 15: Life on Land. Simultaneously, this same action serves as a powerful natural climate solution, as the bamboo sequesters significant amounts of carbon, driving progress toward SDG 13: Climate Action.

A huge thank you to The Ecowatch Organization – Ateneo de Zamboanga University and the Eco-Warriors of AdZU for answering our call to environmental action and standing with us in this meaningful initiative. We are also equally grateful to the community of Bunguiao for warmly welcoming us and for your unwavering assistance and support throughout this activity.
