In partnership with the Mathematics Department of the College of Science and Information Technology (CSIT), the Ateneo Centennial Scholars held the 2nd College Statistics Challenge for non-stat majors last July 19, 2019, at the College AVR.
A total of 15 teams composed of 1st and 2nd-year students faced off in the elimination round where only eight teams advanced to the final round. Three teams emerged victorious from the statistics competition with team Vortex Syndicate-ECE (Nicca Ela Abiera, Trizia Lledo, Noever Saile-BS ECE 2) besting all other teams, BSACB (Joeremy Concepcion, John Fabian, Ray Gan Clemente-BS Ac 1) coming in second, and Team Fine (Brynah Nikole Sojor, Betty Marie Josefa Rubio, Miladanica Barraca-BS Ac 1) finishing in third.
To end the competition, Andreya Jannatul, President of ACES, thanked all the participants of the event, congratulated the winners of the competition, and expressed gratitude to Mathematics Department Chair Rey Reyes and CSIT faculty Paul Acebes for serving as the Board of Judges for the Quiz Bowl.
The top three highest-scoring individuals during the elimination round are set to represent Ateneo de Zamboanga University in the upcoming Annual Stat-is-Eeks of UP Statistical Society.
