“Having to represent the university in such [a] prestigious academic event is a once in a lifetime opportunity; we just had to grab it.”
Allen Ross Sanoria and Marf Vergel Dalogdog, 5th year BS Accountancy students representing the Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants AdZU Chapter bagged the top two and four slots in the 10th PICPA National Accounting Quiz Showdown (NAQDown) Mindanao Hub eliminations held at the Finster Hall, Ateneo de Davao University last July 16.
On the semi-final round, of the 37 participants from Mindanao, Sanoria finished second and Dalogdog fourth qualifying them both to represent Region 9 in the National Finals happening in October during the 20th National Mid-Year Convention. The said event happened simultaneously with the NCR, Luzon, and Visayas Hubs’ NAQDown.
Sanoria and Dalogdog relate to having doubts and feeling so much pressure during the competition but are both thankful for the overwhelming moral support from JPIA-AdZU. This is the first time that the Ateneo de Zamboanga University landed a spot in the top 5 and is the only school from Mindanao to have two representatives advancing to the final round.
The contestants were accompanied by their coach and moderator, Armee Jay Cresmundo, CPA; JPIA-AdZU Local Chapter President, Alexandra Wee; and NFJPIA-WMC Regional President Vyrsace Lyka Toledo.
The NAQDown is an annual accounting quiz bowl competition organized by the National Federation of Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants (NFJPIA), sponsored by the Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA). This year, the event was held in association with the SGV Co. It aims to highlight notable academic excellence and the thrive for camaraderie and connections among contestants.
