GEARING UP FOR THE NEW SCHOOLYEAR | AdZU Higher Ed Convened for AdZU ForTe 2023

Gearing Up for the New School Year (3)

Faculty members of the Ateneo de Zamboanga University’s Higher Education schools and colleges, namely the College of Nursing (CON), College of Science, Information Technology, and Engineering (CSITE), School of Education (SED), School of Liberal Arts (SLA), and School of Management and Accountancy (SMA) joined forces for a three-day in-service training dubbed the AdZU Formation and Teaching through Technology or AdZU ForTe 2023. Dedication and the spirit of magis filled the Breeza Hall of the Ateneo Lantaka Campus as eager and energized instructors constructed their teaching tools through this series of training sessions that commenced last July 18, 2023. The last day was held at the Carlos Dominguez Conference Hall (CDCH) of the Fr Ernesto Carretero SJ Building, Salvador Campus, La Purisima.

Dean of the School of Education Dr Dorothy Joann Lei L Rabajante, facilitated the first day’s sessions as she walked through the critical components of a syllabus. Participants were able to revisit their syllabi and realigned them with existing CMOs and PSGs of their respective programs. The afternoon session allowed the participants to craft their syllabus and improve important parts such as the teaching and learning activities designed for each lesson.

For the second day of the INSET, Executive Assistant to the President Ms Renee Vieve V Kanindot, facilitated the proceedings as she revisited the IPP Framework, a hallmark of Jesuit education. This allowed the participants to form think tanks aimed to improve the learning experiences of their students geared towards holistic development. Varying session guides were also developed as outputs for the second day of the session.

The last day’s trainings focused on online tech resources presented by Mr Romeo A Rabajante Jr, a professor of the CSITE unit. He shared his expertise on Google for Education Tools and shared tips on how to use this technology to make the process of teaching and learning a more effective and convenient experience. Mr Rabajante assured participants that these new-age tech tools will greatly improve instruction and level up teaching methods.

The Vice President for Higher Education Fr Rene C Tacastacas SJ’s shared that these trainings “…continue the tradition of excellence.” His support and encouragement inspired the HEU to strive for greater heights in quality education through comprehensive professional development.

AdZU ForTe started in 2020 in response to the abrupt change in the learning modality brought by the pandemic. Its success has led to the Office of the Vice President for Higher Education to conduct this initiative annually, continually empowering and providing capability training for AdZU’s faculty.
