Martyrdom in Silence

Scanning through the mysterious and metaphoric photos illumined by the blue-led lights, the Silent Concert exhibit was loudly resounding the Animo Ateneo.
This fundraising art display is made possible by Fr Jason Dy, SJ, current faculty member of the Ateneo de Manila University Fine Arts Department. He was the Ateneo de Zamboanga University Junior High School Campus Minister from 2003-2004. With his passion and unique way of expressing his skills in art, he was able to come up with this exhibit cum installation art highlighting the old photos and remnants of the Brebeuf Gym.

Fr Jason’s art speaks to us through visual works thus, the paradoxical name suggested by this exhibit.

The Silent Concert art exhibit displays black and white documentations of the 67-year old gym from its glorious completeness to the destruction by the July 07, 2016 fire incident. This allowed us to travel back in time and reminisce the memories that the Brebeuf Gym sheltered.

The spirit of martyrdom is the reason why despite the numerous hardships we experience in life, the Brebeuf Gym incident, shows that we can stand up after setbacks.”

Inquired about the lesson that he would like to impart to the visitors of the exhibit, Fr Dy positively responded, “Our house might be destroyed, but our spirit shall never be defeated.”
Currently being displayed in the Gallery of the Peninsula and the Archipelago, the said art exhibit will run from December 1, 2016 until January 21, 2017.

When asked about the greatest fulfillment he seeks to attain from this event, “The biggest fulfillment that I seek to achieve is for people to have insights about our experience.
