Today, January 13, 2025, the ACES Team conducted its regular monthly monitoring visit in the reforestation area along the coastal zone of Simariki Island, Barangay Talon-Talon, focusing on assessing the status and progress of the existing mangrove farms and nursery establishments. This activity aimed to evaluate the condition, growth, and management practices of the planted mangroves to ensure that community-led restoration efforts remain aligned with sustainable coastal and environmental stewardship.

As part of the project framework, monitoring activities are conducted on a monthly basis to systematically track progress and address site-specific challenges. This approach enables accurate documentation of mangrove survival rates, identification of areas that may require replanting, and assessment of the overall condition of the reforestation site. Regular monitoring also supports timely interventions, thereby increasing the likelihood of long-term project success and strengthening ecosystem resilience in Simariki Island.

In addition to the field assessment, the team also conducted a short meeting and kamustahan session with members of the Sama Bangingi community. This interaction provided a valuable opportunity to check on the well-being of community partners, gather feedback on project implementation, and further strengthen collaboration and trust between ACES and the local stakeholders.

The visit reflects ACES’ continued commitment to community-driven mangrove rehabilitation, the protection of coastal resources, and the empowerment of local partners in sustaining healthy and productive ecosystems. Our impact is aligned with several key UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Primarily, our work advances SDG 14: Life Below Water through the direct protection and restoration of vital coastal and marine habitats. Concurrently, it contributes to SDG 13: Climate Action by enhancing nature-based solutions that build resilience to climate-related risks. Furthermore, our initiatives support SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities by empowering and sustaining community-led environmental management in coastal barangays.

This ongoing effort is made possible through the dedication of our Sama Bangingi community partners, whose active participation and stewardship continue to nurture Simariki Island’s mangrove ecosystems toward a more resilient and sustainable future.
