Walking with the Youth: International Youth Day at Kahigayonan 2025

The Learning to Earning Pathways (LEaP!) Programme celebrated International Youth Day in Cagayan de Oro City through KAHIGAYONAN 2025: Piyesta sa Dakbayan, Tabo sa mga Oportunidad. The gathering brought together partners, volunteers, and young people to highlight the vital role of youth in shaping a more inclusive and hopeful future.

On stage, our partners from UNICEF Philippines, YOMA (Youth Agency Marketplace), and Passport to Earning (P2E) delivered their messages of support — affirming how young people can access opportunities, build skills, and connect with networks that open pathways from learning to earning. These commitments reflect LEaP!’s mission to journey with adolescents and young people as they discover their potential and take active roles in building their communities.

Representing UNICEF Philippines, Education Officer Kristofer Kliatchko, on behalf of Chief of Education Dr. Akihiro Fushimi, reminded participants that “You are not just the future — you are the present.” His words echoed the shared belief that youth are already leaders and changemakers in their own right. Joining him were Ms. Kristina Zittel, YOMA Global Coordination Consultant, who spoke on connecting youth to opportunities through YOMA, and Ms. Iris Caluag, P2E Global Coordination Consultant, who highlighted the importance of creating accessible pathways from learning to earning.

The celebration also honored the invaluable contributions of LEaP Volunteers, whose dedication embodied the spirit of companionship and solidarity. Their efforts, recognized with a plaque of appreciation, symbolize the collective mission of volunteers, partners, and communities to nurture safer and more empowering spaces for young people in Cagayan de Oro and beyond.

Kahigayonan 2025 was more than a festival of opportunities — it was a testament to the power of collaboration and the enduring commitment to stand alongside youth as they dream, grow, and lead.
