AtFest 2015 closes, affirming AdZU’s commitment to service

The annual Ateneo Fiesta came to a close December 6, Sunday with a three-hour finale that saw the academic organizations and units who competed in the slate of sports and non-sports tilts win for their chosen charities. This year’s AtFest Overall Champion – the Accountancy Department, paired with Creche Integrated Studies Center; followed by the Junior High School unit which will donate their prize winnings to the victims of the recent fire incident in Tumaga; with the College of Nursing rounding up the top three, choosingas charity partner, the Siu Hua Yu Fund/Pan Cada Dia.

Other beneficiaries include the Yellow Boat of Hope Foundation of the School of Medicine, the Cornerstone Program of the AdZU Grade School, the Home for Women of the Management Department, and the AdZU Recovery and Assistance Program for IDPs of the Zamboanga Siege of College of Science and Information Technology. The Faculty and Staff on the other hand chose the DSWD-Home for the Elderly while Culianan National High School and the Maria Clara Lobregat National High School were the recipients of the School of Education and the Graduate Schools respectively. The School of Liberal Arts sponsored the Armed Forces of the Philippines Educational Benefit System while the College of Law had the Atty. Gian Enriquez Legal Assistance Fund.

With support from its major sponsors Globe, Coca-Cola FEMSA and Uniliver, this year’s Ateneo Fiesta was able to donate more than a hundred thousand pesos to the said organizations. Starting just last year, this most-anticipated event in Ateneo’s calendar has featured colleges and units of the AdZUcompeting for the benefit of their chosen charities and advocacies. This in keeping with the century-old commitment of the only Jesuit University in Western Mindanao to produce “men and women for others, men and women for the service of God and country.
