AdZU-RAP Opens Photo and Video Exhibit on
September 2013 Siege Survivors and Heroes
On the 9th of September, the Ateneo de Zamboanga University Recovery and Assistance Program (AdZU-RAP), through the support of Action Contre La Faim (ACF), unveiled a photo and video exhibit dubbed as “El Olvidao Crisis: The Current Condition of Zamboanga City’s Siege Survivors” to commemorate the resilience and courage of the September 2013 Zamboanga Siege survivors and heroes.
Among those present during the ribbon cutting ceremony were: ACF Food Security and Livelihood Project Manager Nashrudin Modin; AdZU Assistant to the President for Formation, Fr Wilfredo M Samson SJ; AdZU-RAP Coordinator, John Mayo Enriquez; AdZU-RAP Project Lead, Camille Lucille Bello.
The exhibit presents the works of the following as part of their AdZU’s Service Learning Program: Rudmar Villanueva, Mohammad Sarajan, Renzo Wee, Mark Kim Tayona, Norleen Campos, Kenneth Al-John Abas, Czarina Lynne Yecla, Bianca Alyanna Zamora, Jeanne Paul Quimson, Kenrick Rico, Joshua Bughao, and IJ Revantad. Trisha Manulong, Gallery Coordinator, and Isai Hilado, with the assistance of AdZU student volunteers, are credited with the concept and design.
The Gallery of the Peninsula and the Archipelago at the Fr Eusebio Salvador Campus in La Purisima Street will host the exhibit until the 25th of September. It features photos and videos that reveal the living conditions of internally-displaced persons in transitory sites two years after the crisis. It showcases their resilience and determination to overcome their day-to-day struggles: insufficient supply of clean water and power; lack of access to school resulting to an increased number of dropouts among High School and College students; unstable source of income; and, the rampant cases of severe malnourishment which are most evident at Masepla and Buggoc transitory sites.
El Olvidao Crisis is a concerted effort of AdZU-RAP and its local and international partners who share the same mission of seeking long-term solutions that will bring transformation to the communities of the Internally Displaced People of the Zamboanga Siege.
