The Ateneo Peace Institute (API) hosted the i-Speak: Stories of Social Truths awards ceremony on February 20, 2015, at the Campion Lecture Hall of the ADZU Salvador Campus.The event was part of Ateneo de Zamboanga Unviversity’s celebration of the National Arts Month and the World Day of Social Justice.
This is the fifth year that API organized iSpeak, a documentary film festival. There were 24 entries this year. The films were produced by students enrolled in the First Year Formation Program (FFP) as a deliverable for their “Self and Society” module.
The i-Speak project seeks to immerse the Atenean in different social realities, to facilitate a deeper understanding of the complexity of these realities, and to serve as catalyst for reflection and future action in the service of the society: a voice for the voiceless.
There were three major award categories: i-Speak Technical Awards, i-Speak Special Commendations and i-Speak Award for Peace Advocacy.
The i-Speak Technical Awards were given to films that excelled in the following technical areas: narrative flow, directing, cinematography, video editing, storytelling, and poster design. The i-Speak Special Commendations were given to filmmakers who personified the virtues of Courage, Hope, Solidarity and Perseverance. The i-Speak Award for Peace Advocacy is given to films that showcased the essence of a social documentary.
