The Mathematical Society of the Philippines (MSP) – Region 9 Chapter will host the 5th Regional Convention and Seminar-Workshop which will be held on June 6-7, 2014 at the Ateneo de Zamboanga University, La Purisima St., Zamboanga City. The convention will start at 8:00 am on June 6.
Invited as plenary speakers are Dr. Ian June Garces, a faculty member of the Ateneo de Manila University and former coach of the Philippine delegates for the International Math Olympiad; Mr. Johnny Amora, statistician/consultant of De La Salle College of Saint Benilde; and Dr. Lorna Almocera, MSP-Cebu president and faculty of the University of the Philippines-Cebu City.
The seminar-workshops primarily aim to enhance the mathematical skills of teachers in solving non-routine worded problems including some Philippine Mathematical Olympiad questions and to keep abreast of the updates and implications of K to12, among others.
Researchers and educators in all areas of pure and applied mathematics, mathematics education, statistics and other related areas are invited to submit short papers for oral presentation during the convention. Graduate, undergraduate, high school students, and all Mathematics enthusiasts are also welcome to join.
