Ateneo Research Center Sponsors ARC Research Forum 2013

The Ateneo Research Center successfully conducted the 2-day ARC Research Forum 2013 featuring the research of five AdZU faculty members: Jocelyn Partosa, PhD; Robert Panaguiton, PhD; Paul Acebes, PhD; Ms. Ana Mae Tanguilig; and Ms. Mary Rose Andrada. The forum was held at the Carlos Dominguez Conference Hall on August 12 and 13, 2013. Aside from AdZU faculty, participants in the event included faculty members from Universidad de Zamboanga (UZ), Zamboanga State College of Marine Science and Technology (ZSCMST), Sulu State College (SSC), and Brent Hospital and Colleges, Inc.

Dr. Partosa’s paper presentation entitled Secondary Teachers and pre-service Teachers’ Conceptual Understanding of Photosynthesis: a cross regional study demonstrated evidence of misconceptions in the interpretation of teachers. Dr. Panaguiton’s presentation entitled Lami-Lamihan: Yakan Cultural Festivity and Authenticity tackled issues on the authenticity of the continually evolving cultural Yakan practices. Ms. Tanguilig shared the results of her examination of the mentoring experience in AdZU in her paper ADZU Mentoring Program: Evolution and Evaluation. On the second day of the forum Dr. Acebes highlighted the non-traditional computational strategies of Tausug, Sama, and Yakan vendors in his paper Mathematical Problem-Solving Skills of Street Vendors from Selected Ethnic Groups: A Case Study. Also on the second day Ms. Andrada detailed the preferred message design logic of ethnic groups in Mindanao in her paper Message Design Logics in Negotiation of Ethnic Group Members in the Zamboanga Peninsula.

Also present in the forum was University-OIC Fr. Wilfredo M. Samson, SJ; CHED Regional Director Emmylou Yanga, PhD; and Ms. Jennifer Pidor of DOST Region 9 who delivered the Keynote Address in behalf of DOST Regional Director Ms. Brenda Nazareth-Manzano.

The event also featured eight (8) researches presented during the concurrent sessions and four (4) research posters. Faculty members from UZ, Sulu State College, and AdZU were the presenters.
