ADZU Granted Autonomous Status by CHED

01 April 2009

MEMO TO: THE ATENEO COMMUNITY

RE:
ADZU GRANTED AUTONOMOUS STATUS BY CHED

I am very delighted to inform our community that in a memo issued to me by CHED Chairman Emmanuel Y Angeles dated 17 March 2009, the Ateneo de Zamboanga University was granted “the AUTONOMOUS STATUS for a period of five (5) years from March 11, 2009 to March 30, 2014.” The autonomous status grants AdZU, among other things, rights and privileges, not least would be offering of new academic programs, creating new university extension programs of our institution, and being given special mandates to conduct research projects and other academic development programs. In a word, only those private higher education institutions (HEIs) which have attained a certain degree of excellence and quality education are awarded this much coveted status. I am happy and humbled that we belong to this roster of HEIs.

My profound thanks to Dr Rebecca V Fernandez, AVP, our college deans for their leadership and the members of our colleges for making it possible for us to maintain our stature as an academic institution.

Congratulations to us all!

Antonio F Moreno SJ
