Ateneo Launches Annual Job Fair
ZAMBOANGA CITY – The Ateneo de Zamboanga University, through the initiative of the College Guidance and Counseling Office (CGCO), conducted its yearly Job Fair at the Carlos Dominguez Conference Hall LRC building on February 8-9, 2013 with the theme “Celebrating 100 Years of Excellence, Spirituality and Citizenship in Career Building”.
According to the university’s website, the Job Fair is an “affair where students, especially those who are graduating, get the chance to be familiar with the different agencies, both public and private, in the city and the region.”
Ms Estesa Xaris C. Que-Legaspi, Director of the College Guidance and Counseling Office, says “One of the things that is unique about our Job Fair [is that] in other schools, I know that there are no interviews”. Ms Legaspi points out that the AdZU Job Fair provides 10-15 minute actual interviews between a representative from the company and the student-applicant. She adds that the Job Fair serves as an exposure for students vis-à-vis the process of the actual job searching. According to her, “A lot of students kasi pag first time, medyo kabado. Wala silang confidence. If they go through this, kahit na practice lang, pagdating nila sa actual interviews for real application then they have that kind of confidence.”
Cliffton Faustino, a 2012 graduate of BS Business Administration, says “I feel pressured. This is my first time to join a Job Fair.
Meanwhile, a graduating student of BS Psychology, feels that she’s not sure of what she’s doing because she doesn’t know yet which company to apply for.
