LET US FLOOD THEM WITH OUR GENEROSITY!
It has been all over the news that Metro Manila and the provinces nearby have recently been plagued by typhoon Gener and the incessant rains brought about by the southwest monsoons. These past few days of heavy rain in the said areas had resulted in, among many others, the mandatory suspension of classes, the destruction of agricultural crops, private property, the loss of shelter, and worst, the loss of lives. As of today, the number of deaths recorded had increased to no less than 20, and more than 700,000 residents have been evacuated from flooded areas. Consequently, many families and individuals have been displaced and are presently confronted with various needs: from food to clothing to personal care products, and the like. In solidarity with, and in response to the immediate needs of our brethren who have been the victims of such calamities, we would like to appeal to you for help. However, in the past when donations of all sorts were accepted, we realized that the tedious process of sorting relief goods hindered us from immediately extending help to those affected by the current situation.
In light of this, we would like to explicitly indicate which donations are most welcome: (1) cash; (2) new undergarments; (3) hygiene kits, including bath soaps, detergents, shampoos, and the like; (4) towels; (5) blankets; and (6) infant needs such as diapers, mats, and clothing.
The Ateneo de Zamboanga University, through the Social Awareness and Community Service Involvement (SACSI) Office that will head the Emergency Response Team, would receive donations within this week; otherwise, you may directly deposit your donations to the following accounts of the Finance Office: BPI Acct. # 2111-0001-42 (PHP) & BPI Acct. # 2114-0103-51 (USD). All cash donations will in turn be forwarded to the Simbahang Lingkod ng Bayan Office of the Ateneo de Manila, while AdZU’s Brebeuf Gym will serve as the hub for material donations.
