In Memoriam Fr Nicomedes Yatco, SJ

MEMO TO : THE UNIVERSITY COMMUNITY

RE : IN MEMORIAM FR NICOMEDES YATCO, SJ

As we were celebrating the Holy Mass for Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception in the morning of December 8, Fr Nicomedes T Yatco, SJ quietly passed away; quite fitting for someone who was known by many, especially by his students, as a faithful devotee of our Blessed Mother. He was 87.

Fr Nick, as he was fondly called, was a prominent member of our University community having served as a college faculty teaching Theology from 1987 to 2013 and chair of the Religious Studies Department from 1991-1999.

Born on August 24, 1928 in Manila, Fr Nick entered the Society of Jesus on May 30, 1947, and was ordained on June 16, 1962. He has a doctorate in Theology from the Loyola School of Theology in Chicago, USA.

Born to a family of musicians, Fr Nick is remembered by long-time members of the ADZU community as a baton-wielding conductor of the Jesuits during their singing presentations in institutional gatherings.

He left AdZU in 2014 and stayed with the Jesuit Community at the Lucas Infirmary in Loyola House of Studies (LHS), Loyola Heights, Quezon City.

Fr Nick’s wake will be in the Oratory of St. Ignatius in Loyola House of Studies (LHS), Ateneo de Manila University campus, Loyola Heights, Q.C. Daily wake masses will start tomorrow, December 10 at 8pm also at LHS.

Funeral mass will be on Friday, December 11, at 8am, also at LHS, and interment right after the
Funeral Mass at the Sacred Heart Novitiate Jesuit Cemetery.

A memorial mass for Fr Nick will be held here in ADZU, with date and time to be announced later.

I ask the ADZU community to remember Fr Nick and pray for the repose of his soul. Thank you.
