MEMO TO: THE ATENEO COMMUNITY
RE: DIA DE ZAMBOANGA AND MAULUDIN NABI
In 1936, Zamboanga was created as a chartered city. Its first elected officials assumed office on 26 February, a year after its creation as a chartered city. We celebrate on 26 February 2010 “Dia de Zamboanga” to commemorate this event.
On the same day, Islamic communities all over the world will celebrate the Birth of the Prophet Mohammad (Mauludin Nabi). The Office of Muslim Affairs (OMA) has declared 26 February a special non-working day.
I am therefore calling off classes at all levels and offices of the university to celebrate these two great events. We are one with the whole of Zamboanga City and our Muslim brothers and sisters in the celebration of Dia de Zamboanga and the Birth of the Prophet Mohammad.
