Congratulations to Mary Honeylyn “Honee” Alipio (ABIS 2003)

Ateneo de Zamboanga University congratulates Mary Honeylyn “Honee” Alipio (AB Interdisciplinary Studies 2003) for the success of the drama “Taklub” at the Cannes Film Festival.

Alipio wrote the wrote the screenplay for “Taklub”, a finalist in the Un Certain Regard competition at the Cannes Film Festival in France.

The film stars iconic actress Nora Aunor and was directed by Brillante Mendoza, winner of a Cannes best director award in 2009 for the film Kinatay.

Taklub is inspired by the stories of survivors of super typhoon Yolanda.

The official Taklub Facebook page states “Alipio was nominated for Best Screenplay at the 2014 Gawad Urian for ‘Dukit’ directed by award-winning writer Armando “Bing” Lao who serves as Alipio’s mentor as well as script consultant for ‘Taklub.’”

The Facebook page goes to to say that prior to writing ‘Taklub,’ “Alipio went on an extensive research in Leyte where she used to do field work with the Department of Social Work and Development (DSWD). She’s currently pursuing her Master of Arts degree in Asian Studies at the University of the Philippines (UP-Diliman).”

The film premiered at the prestigious international film festival on May 13 to 14, 2015 to rave reviews.

A review of Taklub on hollywoodreporter.com says of Alipio’s work on the film:”By shunning straightforward melodramatic exposition of all the varied tragic back stories, Mendoza and screenwriter Honeylyn Joy Alipio allow their characters to slowly and gently reveal their anguish and pain.”
