Ateneo de Zamboanga University Promotes Ecological Conversion Through Laudato Si’ Session

In its continued commitment to mission-driven community engagement, Ateneo de Zamboanga University (AdZU), through its Center for Community Extension Services (CCES), conducted a Laudato Si’ session titled “Ecological Conversion Towards Ecological Protection” on February 5, 2025. The session was held at Angiskul ma Bangka Child Development Center and attended by 23 parents and guardians of enrolled day-care learners.

Led by the Program Officer for Health and Education, the session aimed to raise awareness about environmental responsibility, emphasizing cleanliness, sanitation, and the collective duty to care for the common home. Parents and guardians actively participated, sharing their experiences, concerns, and aspirations for a cleaner and healthier community.

Throughout the discussion, participants recognized the urgent need for action to protect their environment. Many voiced their desire to adopt sustainable practices, such as proper waste disposal, tree planting, and maintaining clean surroundings, as small but significant steps toward ecological conservation.

Inspired by the session, attendees committed to engaging in community-based environmental projects, ensuring that the values of stewardship and sustainability extend beyond the classroom and into their daily lives. Their enthusiasm highlighted the importance of empowering communities to take part in ecological transformation.

This initiative underscores AdZU’s dedication to social responsibility and fostering a culture of environmental awareness and action.

By equipping communities with the knowledge and motivation to protect and preserve natural resources, AdZU continues to promote sustainable development and ecological justice.

As the program progresses, CCES hopes to expand its reach, encouraging more communities to embrace Laudato Si’s call for ecological conversion. Through education, dialogue, and shared commitment, the initiative strengthens the movement towards a greener and more sustainable future for all.
