The Ateneo de Zamboanga University’s Social Development Unit – Center for Community Extension Services (AdZU SDU-CCES) led by Director Loreta R Sta Teresa, in partnership with the Office of the City Agriculturist-Fisheries and Regulatory Services Division, held a consultation meeting with the Simariki seaweed farmers.
The meeting, hosted at the Simariki School for Indigenous People in Talon-Talon, provided an important platform for dialogue and planning, setting the stage for a collaborative livelihood project with the Ateneo de Davao Institute (ADFI). This initiative aims to combat poverty while promoting sustainable marine resource management to support long-term community development.
The proposed project will offer sustainable livelihood opportunities for Simariki Island’s carpenters and fisherfolk, improving their economic well-being while ensuring the conservation of marine ecosystems.
This partnership marks a significant milestone in advancing resilience and sustainable development for the indigenous communities of Simariki Island, underscoring AdZU’s commitment to inclusive growth and environmental sustainability.
