AdZU renders Alternative Healing for San Ramon Inmates
The inmates and staff of San Ramon Penal Farm experienced an unusual form of detoxification and relaxation: acupuncture.
A team of Acupuncture Detoxification Specialists from ADZU, composed of guidance counselors and teachers, went to the penal farm on October 28, 2014 to extend these services as an outreach activity. The treatment is prescribed for stress and trauma, grief and depression.
Recipients of the ear acudetox treatment were 35 inmates and about the same number of government employees at the site.
The activity was organized by the ADZU College Guidance Office. The treatments were given by nine trained Acupuncture Detoxification Specialists (ADS) of ADZU, mostly guidance counselors and teachers. The specialists are trained with the National Acupuncture Detoxification Association (NADA).
According to NADA, ear acupuncture is an alternative and complementary modality of detoxification and relaxation for stress and trauma, depression and anxiety, drug and other substance abuse and other behavioral health issues.
During the Ateneo Fiesta, the ADZU College Guidance Office will set up a booth to provide free ear acupuncture for members of the ADZU community.
