AdZU JHS this week, November 20-25, 2017.

Date: October 20, 2017

Weekly Memorandum No. 2017 –11.3

FROM: Father Principal

SUBJECT: AdZU JHS this week, November 20-25, 2017.

1. DYNAMICS OF THE IGNATIAN
PEDAGOGICAL PARADIGM

At this level of REFLECTION,
the memory, the understanding, the imagination and the feelings are used to
capture the meaning and the essential value of what is being studies, to
discover its relationship with other aspects of knowledge and human activity,
and to appreciate its implication in the ongoing search fo truth and freedom.
This REFLECTION is a formative and
liberating process. It forms the conscience of learners (their beliefs, values,
attitudes and their entire way of thinking) in such a manner that they are led
to move beyond knowing, to undertake action.

We use the term REFLECTION
to mean a thoughtful reconsideration of some subject matter, experience, idea,
purpose of spontaneous reaction, in order to grasp its significance more fully.
Thus, reflection is the process by which meaning surfaces in human experience:

a.)  by understanding the truth being studied more
clearly.

b.)  by understanding the sources of the sensations
or reactions I experienced.

c.)  by deepening my understanding of the
implications of what I have grasped for myself and for others.

d.)  by achieving personal insights into events,
ideas, truth or the distortion of truth and the like.

e.)  by coming to some understanding of who I am
and who I might be in relation to others.

4. SOMETHING TO PONDER

FORCED
GRATITUDE?

Gratitude,
of course, cannot be forced. “You should be grateful,” we growl at our kids, as
they limply move the food around on their plates. “Do you know how many
children in the world go to bed hungry? They would be overjoyed to have a
dinner like that.” Somehow this doesn’t make the braised eggplant any more
appetizing, at least to the children who sit around my dinner table. We know
that gratitude can’t be forced, of course, but we still find ourselves trying
to coerce our kids to be more grateful. And we do the same to ourselves, too.
We’re aware that we have so much to be grateful for: my children’s lives, a
ready supply of food and water, cozy and secure homes. We enjoy these “basics”
– countless luxuries besides – while so many people in the world struggle just
to survive the day. We secretly chide ourselves: I should be more grateful. But
try as we may, we’re just not feeling it. We wonder if there’s something wrong
with us. Is my heart hardened somehow? Is it really not such a great gift to
have these needs met? Will I ever feel content and satisfied?
