ADZU HS commemorates the 116th Philippine Independence Day

116th INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION

This year’s Independence Day celebration carries the theme “Pagsunod sa Yapak ng mga Dakilang Pilipino, Tungo sa Malawakan at Permanenteng Pagbabago” (Following the Footsteps of Great Filipinos, Towards Widespread and Lasting Change) This year’s theme prompts us to remember the sacrifices of our nation’s founding fathers and heroes.

The Ateneo de Zamboanga University-High School through its Social Studies department commemorates the 116th Philippine Independence Day on June 11 with a rendition of the chronological development of the country’s flag. The AdZU-HS students, faculty and staff were provided with a unique learning as well as entertaining spectacle when members of the Boy Scouts of the Philippines and Girl Scouts of the Philippines Ateneo Chapter, marched amidst the audience each carrying a particular flag in the order of their historical evolution. Mr. Espiridion D. Atilano, Jr., chair of the Social Studies department narrated the story and background of each flag as it ascended the stage. The march concluded with the raising of the official Philippine flag. It was followed by an interpretative performance of PUNLAAN-the official theatre guild of the AdZU-HS. In closing, Ms. Alessi Chloe Alvarez of IV-St. Faber, newly elected Council of Leaders President led the students in reaffirming their loyalty to the flag and love of country by the words of the “Panunumpa sa Watawat”.
