Powered by Ateneo values Animo and Magis, AdZU’s campus journalists raked up awards in the 13th National Campus Media Conference, held in Iloilo City on September 11-13, 2019.
Bagging a total of 38 major and 59 minor awards, AdZU delegation brought home 10 First, 14 Second, and 14 Third Places for the major awards with the Junior and Senior High School ranking 4th as a Top-Performing School for Basic Education Division. Beacon member Wisey John F Democrito likewise got the nod as Mindanao Representative for Tertiary Division.
A total of 720 campus journalists and advisers from 85 publications all over the Philippines vied for gold in lead, news, and feature Writing; layouting; photojournalism; backpack journalism; creative magazine publishing; documentary and vlog making; and journalism quiz bowl. The Ateneo de Zamboanga University had a total of 68 junior high, senior high, college, and adviser/moderator participants to the event.
Apart from the competitions, the three-day confab was jam-packed with plenary talks relating to campus journalism. The talks featured reputable professors and practitioners including Adobo Magazine’s Creative Director and former Grid Magazine Digital Director Chaz Requina and Dr Zoilo Andrada Jr, UP-Visayas Professor.
The national confab was organized by the School Press Advisers’ Movement (SPAM), Inc, a non-profit organization that promotes responsible campus journalism and social awareness in young writers and broadcasters.
