The Ateneo de Zamboanga University–College of Nursing organized a capacity building-seminar entitled “Empowering Faculty as Research Mentors: Skills for Effective Guidance.” on April 24, 2025 at the FWS Multi-Purpose Hall, Senior High School Building. This seminar, with the support of the College of Nursing Dean Maria
Lorna B Paber RN MAN, was led and organized by Dr Christine Celdran RN MAN along with her Research Team, Dr Fatima P Ibno RN MN MAN, Maria Pilar T Panaguiton RN MN, Maricel B Ramonal RN MN, Jana B Rivera RN MN, Anna Lisa B Rosalejos RN MAN, Ethel R Porto RN, and Esperanza Bautista RN.
The said research team invited credible resource speakers known in their field of expertise, namely Dr Dyana Marciana Saplan RN MAN, the Graduate School Program Coordinator of the College of Nursing. Dr Saplan delivered the first part of the

seminar which focused mainly on empowering the College of Nursing Faculty as research mentors and to provide them guidance in their research foundation and how to effectively advise mentees in their research journey. During her talk, Dr Saplan embedded research activities wherein the participants, mainly the College of Nursing Faculty, actively engaged in the said activity.
In the afternoon session, Dr Robert T Panaguiton, former dean of the School of Liberal Arts in the Ateneo de Zamboanga University, and currently a Faculty of the Philosophy Department in the College of Liberal Arts in Western Mindanao University was invited to share his expertise on how to determine fitting research methodologies based on the desired field of research interest and how to become effective in their roles as research mentors and panelists. Dr Panaguiton enriched his talk with research expertise and experiences, which evidently inspired the College of Nursing Faculty.
Overall, the research seminar concluded with success, leaving the College of Nursing empowered to become research mentors in their own right.
