ACLG graduates pioneers for Barangay Leadership Program

The Ateneo Center for Leadership and Governance (ACLG) graduated the first batch of its Barangay Leadership and Governance Program (BLGP) in a Colloquium held September 13, 2016 at the Sapphire Hall, Astoria Hotel, this city.

The BLGP, implemented in partnership with the Department of Interior and Local Government of Zamboanga City, is a one-year, two-module leadership capability-building program following the Bridging Leadership Framework for Barangay Chairman and Officials. It includes coaching and mentoring sessions during the practicum phase, and a Colloquium at the end of the program.

ACLG Director Aurora Gonzales said that as part of the implementation process, the participants are expected to improve their Barangay Leadership Indicators under the Barangay Governance Performance Management System (BGPMS). “They are also expected to engage other local stakeholders within and outside their respective communities,” she added.

During this batch’s colloquium, Barangay Chairpersons presented their public narratives, and related their personal transformations, showcased their achievements throughout the course of the program, and discussed their bridging leadership learnings, which they said will certainly guide them years beyond the program. An interactive panel discussion followed where they were asked questions by a panel composed of representatives from the LGUs, PNP, CSO and the business sector.

ADZU President Fr Karel San Juan SJ, in his closing remarks, expressed hopes for the barangay officials to have the ability, commitment, and integrity to fulfill their roles in their respective barangays. He also acknowledged that their work is tough and involves a lot of sacrifices, stressing that more than just work, it is a mission from God. Lastly, he invoked God’s help to strengthen them in this mission.

The pioneering batch of the ACLG-BLGP is composed of barangay chairpersons, kagawads, and treasurers from six (6) barangays in Zamboanga City.
