About the Gallery

The Gallery of the Peninsula and the Archipelago (GPA) is meant to be a place of culture and the arts where exhibits, current and permanent collections may be viewed. The items for the gallery would be paintings, sketches, sculpture, photographs, and items of artistic value and high quality artisanship. The Gallery will have three sections ith a total of 115 square meters.

The first section is for current exhibits of local artists of the Zamboanga Peninsula and the Sulu Archipelago. This is where art works are exhibited and hopefully even be bought.

The second section of the gallery is where we display permanent items collected by the Ateneo over the years. These include paintings, sculpture, photos and artistically interesting cultural items such as textiles, musical instruments and the like.

The third and last section of the gallery is a study and library area for young people and others interested in art of all forms. There are tables for reading and looking at art books. The administrative section and the storage room is also in this area.

We also see the gallery as a place for various activities such as musical and literary presentations, film showings and art demonstrations. Workshop areas for paintings, sculpture and the like will be in other locations on the campus.

This Gallery of the Peninsula and the Archipelago is a place of culture and the arts for the Zamboanga Peninsula and provinces of the Sulu Archipelago. It is not just a gallery of the arts of the present, but it is also meant to inspire arts for the future.

The gallery is located at the first floor of the former high school building fronting La Purisima Street. The entrance to the gallery is through gate 1 for both pedestrians and vehicles. The hours of the gallery is from 9:00AM to 6:00PM, Mondays to Fridays, and 8:00 AM to 12:00 Noon on Saturdays.
