On October 4, 2024, the Ateneo Center for Environment and Sustainability (ACES) was honored to join the Interact Club of Ateneo de Zamboanga Senior High School in a meaningful mangrove planting activity at the Simariki Island, Talon-Talon, Zamboanga City.
Together with fellow participants from the Liga de Ciencia and the Eureka STEM Academic Organization, the group successfully planted 200 mangrove propagules, which is a vital step toward coastal restoration and climate resilience.
The activity was made even more insightful with a short discussion and planting orientation led by Ms. Famela Jane Monopolio, Forest Technician 1 of CENRO, who highlighted the ecological importance of mangroves and shared proper planting techniques to ensure their survival and growth.
