At the core of the Learning to Earning Pathways (LEaP!) Programme for Young People is the principle of co-creating courses that is tailor-fit to the needs, realities, and context of our target learners – 15 to 24 year-old adolescents and young people. In line with the transition of LEaP! to its 2nd year of implementation, UNICEF Philippines have engaged Habi Education Lab as a course design and development partner.
The Habi team engaged 13 youth from youth-serving organizations across all the five (5) programme sites of LEaP! for the co-design workshop held at Silong, Katipunan, Quezon City last July 23-24, 2025. Additionally, the team also invited four (4) representatives from the youth development alliance and national government partners to bring in a different perspective in co-designing the courses. The Habi team will develop six (6) Sakto Skills Serye (SSS) courses through this workshop to inform the design process and the needs of the target learners.
By the end of the 2-day workshop, the co-designing process resulted in six (6) priority SSS courses to be developed by the Habi team highlighting the importance of the content, form, connection, and feel of the Saktong courses to its learners. The SSS courses will be used to complement the existing skills training activities of the LEaP! team to reach more young people. Next activities in the design process include the development of the priority SSS courses, testing and validation, modelling, and training of Saktong facilitators. It is expected that adolescents and young people will be able to access the Saktong courses by September 2025.
