MEMO TO : THE UNIVERSITY COMMUNITY
RE : CHRISTMAS MESSAGE
Christmas reminds us that grace can be unexpected and surprising. On the first Christmas, the world expected the coming of a Savior, but not the One who was born poor, meek, and humble in a manger. Mary and Joseph wanted to be simply married, only to be shocked, blessed, and chosen to raise the Son of God. Poor shepherds and wise kings did not expect to be lured and hallowed by the Child King in the cave. Christmas gives us Jesus, the ultimate gift and joy we can ever desire in our lives.
The Ateneo de Zamboanga University experienced this surprising grace and unexpected blessing this year 2016. We lost a beloved icon in Brebeuf Gym, home of fond memories of 67 years of Ateneo life and spirit. Yet the same fire sparked the animo Ateneo. We resolved to recover and rebuild bigger and better. We received help from friends all over the world, and we continue to ask for support. We recommitted to keep our standing as the leading university in the region, and #rise, not just from the ashes, but to the challenges of advancement in excellence and service.
As the year ends, I thank the AdZU community of students, faculty, staff, alumni, parents, and friends. Your enduring love, support, and friendship are gifts and blessings for which we continue to thank God. May this Christmas season and new year 2017 surprise you with unexpected joy, peace, and incomparable grace.
Felices Pascua y Prospero Año Nuevo!
