1. Principal’s Message:

This week is a full and busy week for all of us as we participate in this year’s AtFest.

And the next week will be just as busy.

All these activities are very good. It helps us see the many things, which make up our lives. These are all part of our formation and education here at the Ateneo.  We learn, not only our Math, our English, our Filipino, or History and Sciences – within a context of a world where people live, and work, undergo the pains and tensions of daily living. All this is part of the building of the kingdom of God; in all these to find ourselves in the greater scheme of things.

2. Characteristic of Jesuit Education (CJE). Jesuit education relies on a spirit of community among teaching staff and administrators.As far as possible, people chosen to join the educational community in a Jesuit school will be men and women capable of understanding its distinctive nature and of contributing to the implementation of characteristics that result from the Ignatian vision.

4. Student Updates

a. 3^rd Philippine Nuclear Research Institute National Finals.  John Louize F. Guban and Alec C. Salasa of Grade 10 St. Ignatius of Loyola will compete in the National Finals to be held in Manila on December 7 – 9.  The contest is conducted and sponsored by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and Philippine Nuclear Research Institute (PNRI).  The contest aims to provide an avenue to enhance the Filipino students’ awareness and appreciation of the nuclear science and technology field.

b. Regional Schools Press Conference. The following students will participate in the Regional Schools Press Conference and Contest to be held in Tiguma, Pagadian City on December 9 – 11, 2015.

b. Mr. Carlito Robin and Ms. Marra Vesagas will accompany our student-contestants to the Regional Schools Press Conference in Pagadian City on December 8 – 12, 2015.

c. Mr. Jefrrey Barrera, Science department head, will be in Manila on December 6 – 10, to accompany our student-contestantss in the 3^rd Philippine Nuclear Science Quiz.

d. In-Service Training (INSET) for School Administrators and Teachers of ESC Participating Schools.  Mr. Jeffrey Jalani, Mr. Carlito Robin, Mr. Espie Atilano, and Mr. Jude Ismael will be in Malvar City, Batangas, on December 10 – 14 for the first of three trainers’ seminar and workshop.  This training is a program mandated by the GASTPE Law (R.A. 8545) that emphasizes the need for the Department of Education to implement programs to improve the quality of education in the country by maximizing the use of resources in the private education sector.

6. Guidelines for Class Christmas party

· Grs. 7 – 9: Gathering within the campus.  Grade 10 classes MAY conduct the gathering off campus so long as:  the venue is within the 7km radius from the city proper, party will not go beyond 6pm (standard curfew time).  Chaperones outside 4 teachers.

· Date of Conduct, Dec 18, Friday, 8am – 6pm.

· Suggested contributions:  food: P250;  gifts: at most P250

· No wish list (what I want for Christmas); Christmas attire not required.

· Those who wish to add an outreach component must notify Ms. Hana a week in advance to facilitate the needed coordination with the desired guest-clients.

· Q:  What can I give?  NOT what can I get?

· This Christmas, Be a GIFT to others.

7. The Feast of the Immaculate Conception

The Feast of the Conception of the Virgin Mary remembers St. Anne and St. Joachim, Mary’s mother and father, who became the grandparents of Jesus.  On this day we celebrate Mary’s parents, their love for God and for each other, and the loving union that resulted in the conception of their daughter.

By celebrating the conception of Mary during the season of Advent, we are reminded of the humanity of Christ, who was carried in his mother’s womb just as Mary was carried in her mother’s womb.

As the angel says in the Gospel of Luke, Mary was “highly favored” or “full of grace.”  On this day, the church celebrates the grace bestowed on Mary even from the moment of her conception.  According to the theologians of the early church, God’s plan for the mother of Jesus was that she would be the first among Christians and a model of the church.  Therefore we look to her as an example of the redemptive grace that God offers to all of us through his Son.  While we are born into a sinful world, this feast day is a reminder that God’s grace is always at work in our lives – even at the moment we are conceived.
