December 04, 2015 – The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) kicked-off the three-day 2015 Mindanao Cluster National Science and Technology Fair at the Palacio del Sur Convention Center in Zamboanga City on Thursday.
Ateneo de Zamboanga University (AdZU) Phil-Lidar headed by Project Leader Mario S. Rodriguez was on hand to witness the opening ceremonies.
Dr. Rowena Cristina L. Guevara, the Undersecretary for Scientific and Technological Services, welcomed the various officials, guests and visitors to the event.
After the opening ceremonies, Dr. Guevara was able to meet with Rodriguez and his team and visited the AdZU Phil-Lidar exhibit. AdZU is participating in the event as the implementing agency for the DOST’s nationwide Phil-Lidar Project together with the DREAM-Lidar Project of the University of the Philippines-Diliman (UPD).
DOST IX Regional Director Brenda Nazareth-Manzano and City Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar each addressed the guests during the event. They joined Dr. Guevara and other officials in the ribbon-cutting ceremony to formally open the exhibits at the S&T Fair.
Aside from exhibits, the AdZU-Lidar personnel also attended a forum at the Garden Orchid Hotel entitled “In the Specific Case of Research, are Colleges and Universities Relevant?” Dr. Guevarra also graced the event and gave the opening remarks with participants from different sectors, including government, business and the academe present. Dr. Arnie P. Azcarraga, of De La Salle University, facilitated the forum. Readiness to conduct research, the challenges faced and the place of research in the vision-mission of the school are some of the topics discussed.
The Mindanao Cluster Science and Technology Fair runs from December 03-05, 2015 highlighted by an exhibit featuring different products from MSMEs, developments and projects.
