Thursday of the Second Week of Advent

Gospel Mt 11:11-15

“What is my personal relationship with Jesus?”

How privileged is John the Baptist to announce the coming of our Lord, to prepare His way, and to make His vision clearer to those who do not fully know Him. Like John, we are given opportunities to speak of the Good News, that is, if we have leveled on the depth of the relationship we have with Him.

Personally, I am blessed to be one of His messengers both as a lector and as a communicator (as my chosen field). However, this does not make it any easier for me. In the gospel, Jesus sends an invitation and a challenge to the willing and the brave enough to listen. Have I been listening to His Word attentively? In order to connect the message to the community, the readings I proclaim should also make sense to me first.

How fortunate we are to behold of the message we should dearly hold in spite of our failures, doubts that consume us to the brink of losing hope, and everything in-between that makes us unworthy of heaven. Jesus reassures us that we are much more than all of these! Time and time again, it has been proclaimed that the Kingdom of God is at hand, yet are we listening? Do we pay attention to the marvelous gravity of these words?

We, as His followers, are blessed to hear and pass on the life of the Church. In putting light to this, we need to examine ourselves and the relationship we have formed with Jesus so we could heed to the roles we have to fulfil. This Advent season, let us feel the spirit of the grand feast of Jesus’ arrival and may our hearts openly answer to His call and accept the guaranteed promises laid upon us.
