AdZU concludes
Summer with a Celebration of World Ocean’s Day
The Social Awareness and Community Service Involvement
(SACSI), through its Environment Program, celebrated the World Ocean’s Day on
June 8 2014 by visiting Sta. Cruz Island. SACSI organized activities which
included snorkeling, “SCUBASURERO” scuba diving, and coastal cleaning.
The activities were participated in by the Office of the
City Environment and Natural Resources (OCENR), Coast Guard Station (CGS)
Zamboanga, Regional Maritime Unit 9, Western Mindanao Command (WestMinCom) Unit
3, Joint Special Operations Task Force-Philippines (JSOTF-P), Task force
Zamboanga (TFZ), Kabalikat Civicom 183 Chapter, AdZU College and Grade School
Faculty and Staff, and student volunteers of SACSI, Ecowatch and Psych ICare,
Active League for Emergency Reaction Transciever (D’ ALERT Zamboanga) and City
Mayor’s Office.
The Scubasurero activity was conducted by Mr Rommel A
Cuaresma, a representative of the Aguila Divers of AdZU and college instructor
of the university. Several licensed scuba divers participated in the underwater
cleanup. This was preceded by the snorkeling and coastal cleanup activity where
the participants collected garbage along the coast of the island, including
empty plastic bottle containers and cigarette filters, and segregated the
collected garbage afterwards.
The event concluded with a boodle fight and awarding of
certificates to the participating organizations.
