Efforts at Addressing the Current Crisis Situation

15 September 2013

MEMO TO: THE ADZU COMMUNITY

RE: EFFORTS AT ADDRESSING THE CURRENT CRISIS SITUATION

I wish to inform the community that the AdZU Presidential Management Team (PMT) was convened – the present situation was assessed, possible scenarios were projected, and actions to be taken were outlined. We realized that the tension and the effects of the conflict situation in our City of Zamboanga specifically in the areas which include Sta Barbara, Sta Catalina, Rio Hondo, Talon-Talon, and Mampang extend to the other barangays outside of the declared danger zones. Our city’s economic activities have been paralyzed due to the suspension of air and sea transport services which in turn affects our neighboring provinces and towns whose trade and economic activities are dependent on our City.

As part of our efforts at addressing the current crisis situation that we are experiencing, we shall be implementing the following:

1. SUSPENSION OF CLASSES AND WORK:

September 16, 17 and 18, 2013 (Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday) — Classes and work shall continue to be suspended on these days.

September 19 and 20, 2013 (Thursday and Friday) – ONLY CLASSES shall continue to be suspended. If and when the situation permits, all Faculty and Staff in all levels are requested to report to Fr Eusebio G Salvador SJ Campus, Campion Lecture Hall (2nd floor BC Bldg) at 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM for some special sessions/briefing (a separate announcement shall be issued based on the assessment of the situation).

With the suspension of classes, we also request all our teachers in all levels to suspend the giving of assignments and other requirements to their students so as not to add burden to the psycho-emotional stress that our people are going through in this crisis situation.

2. RELIEF OPERATIONS, SPECIAL DEBRIEFING SESSIONS:

AdZU shall continue assisting our city government and supporting the evacuees with relief operations. RECEIVING of donations shall be in two (2) Venues – La Purisima Campus and Tumaga Campus. However, packing of goods and cooking of food shall be in Tumaga Campus ONLY.

Special Debriefing Sessions with the evacuees are also being conducted by a Team of AdZU Faculty, Staff Students in coordination with DSWD and other psychologists from other groups and institutions. Other crisis interventions explored by the AdZU Presidential Management Team shall continue.

We call upon the members of the AdZU Community to get involved in any of our crisis intervention activities or volunteer to help in any of the evacuation centers nearest to your residence.

3. SUPPORT TO AFFECTED STUDENTS, FACULTY, AND STAFF

We call upon all our students, faculty, staff and other stake holders to please inform the AdZU Administration of names and contact information of any AdZU student, faculty or staff who has been displaced/affected by the conflict situation. You may text, email, or facebook any of your Unit/Office Heads and/or Department Chairs.

SALARIES OF CONTRACTUAL EMPLOYEES: To address the economic, psychological and emotional trauma and insecurities of our contractual employees relevant to the crisis situation, AdZU shall consider
the “crisis days” as “regular working days” with corresponding salary.

4. COMMUNICATION LINES

All AdZU Announcements and Memos shall be aired through Radio RMN Station and through TV 11 Teleradio apart from postings in the AdZU website and in the Facebook accounts of Fr Wilfredo M Samson SJ and Br Raymund E Belleza SJ.

For your information and guidance.

Wilfredo M Samson SJ
