UAAP champ Chris Tiu leads anti-bullying campaign in AdZU HS

Former Ateneo Blue Eagles cager and TV personality, Chris Tiu was at the Ateneo de Zamboanga High School, June 14, Friday for a stop in the nationwide “Not in Our School Anti-Bullying Campaign.” A brainchild of the Jesuit Basic Education Commission (JBEC) and spearheaded by former Xavier School director Fr. Johnny Go, SJ, Tiu serves as its lead ambassador, bringing to schools awareness against bullying.

In his talk, Tiu explained that bullying seems to have taken a life of its own and produced more types of bullying. Being a victim of bullying himself, Tiu vows to put a stop to bullying for he himself had seen its adverse effects on students. He also led the students in attendance to pledge that they will not be bullies, that they will help the bullied, and that they will stand up against bullying.

Also present were Undersecretary Leon Flores III, chair of the National Youth Commission (NYC) and Mr. Earl Saavedra, the Mindanao representative in the said body, who both stressed the importance of being a bully-free school community, of practicing child protection, and of staying away from drugs.

For his part, AdZU High School principal Mr. Conrado Balatbat welcomed the said event and urged everyone in the community to do their share in promoting the campaign.
