Ateneo conducts trainors’ training for Manicahan Public School teachers

Ateneo de Zamboanga University conducted a trainers’ training on the Revised Basic Education Curriculum (RBEC) to four schools in the Manicahan District on October 15-17, 2009   at the Manicahan Central School.

The seminar workshop focused on content upgrading and pedagogy enhancement following RBEC’s three major learning areas. The three-day activity was a collaboration between ECSOM-Zamboanga City, College Outreach Program, and the Department of Education RO-IX,

A total of 74 teachers were trained. These teachers will in turn serve as trainers in the In Service Training (INSET) for the other school teachers of the district on October 26 to 30, 2009.    

The seminar was facilitated by teachers from Natural Sciences, Mathematics, and Languages departments of the university.

ECSOM or the Ecosystems-Based Community-Centered for Sustainable Development Organization and Management (ECSOM) is a program of the university advocating sustainable development. The workshop participants were teachers of public schools that fall under ECSOM’s pilot area: Bunguiao Elementary School, Manicahan Central School, Victoria Elementary School, and Bolong Elementary School.

ECSOM has overseen sustainable development programs in these east coast barangays of the city, along with three other baranggays. These programs are undertaken with the M.T. Kalaw Institute for Sustainable Development in Manila and the local government.
