Promoting proper nutrition and healthy lifestyle among students in Ateneo de Zamboanga University Grade School, the Science and Health department spearheaded by Mrs. Jacquiline E Dorban, chairperson, and Mrs. Annabelle F Gonzales, activity in-charge, organized several activities in line with the theme “Timbangiwasto, satamangnutrisyon at ehersisyo!” (Achieve normal weight through proper nutrition and exercise). These were carried out during the Nutrition Month celebration which culminated with a school-wide Salo-Salo highlighting nutritious food and Zumba session last July 28, 2015.

These activities were geared towards the awareness on the importance of nutrition and proper exercise to achieve normal weight, thus promoting healthy lifestyle.

Symposium on Health and Obesity

The Grades five and six students attended a symposium on “Health and Obesity” at the Regis Multi-Purpose Hall last July 28. Mrs. Karen Abulencia, RN, MN, resource speaker, emphasized the importance of maintaining normal weight. She also talked about the causes and ways on how to prevent obesity through balanced diet as it relates to staying healthy.

Home-based Project

The Grade one and two students engaged in making of Paper Mache, a home-based project that allowed family members to bond while accomplishing the task. This also promotes awareness to fruitify and vegify their meals by talking about their favorite fruits or vegetables while forming their figures out of Paper Mache.

Parade of Nutri-Bulletin Boards and Dioramas

The grades three and four students came-up with bulletin boards and grades five and six students built dioramas featuring the facets of the proper nutrition and exercise. Students with best work from each class had the opportunity to parade their outputs during the culminating activity.
