27th Philippine Mathematical Olympiad Starts with the Official Qualifying Stage

The 27th Philippine Mathematical Olympiad (PMO27) Qualifying Stage took place on November 23, 2024, at the 4th and 5th Floors of FWS Building, Ateneo de Zamboanga University – Senior High School. Participants included high school students from various public and private schools across Region IX.

Since its inception in 2007, the PMO has been a cornerstone event hosted by the Mathematics Department. Faculty members from various departments within the College of Science, Information Technology, and Engineering (CSITE) played a key role as proctors during the event. The continued success of the PMO can be attributed to the unwavering support and leadership of Dr. Kreanne F. Diaz, Chair of the Mathematics Department, whose dedication has been crucial in making this event possible. Additionally, the PMO27 Regional Coordinator for Region IX, Dr. Paulino T. Acebes, Jr., has played a significant role in the event’s success in the region.

Students who excel in the Qualifying Stage will advance to the Area Stage, set for January 30, 2024. The National Final will follow on March 8-9, 2025, where the Philippine Team for the 66th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) will be selected. The IMO will take place in July 2025 in Sunshine Coast, Australia.
