A research proposal entitled “Narcissistic Tendencies in Social Networking Sites among College Students of Ateneo de Zamboanga University” bested four other finalists to earn the distinction as Best Research Proposal in a competition held among the university’s 21 Engl 112n (Academic Writing and Research) classes.
Accountancy freshmen Aimee Jannie D. Calixton and Angel Marie C. Reganion from Section F were the proponents of the winning entry. Calixton was also adjudged as Best Presenter from the field of 13 contestants.
Fifteen proposals qualified at the initial selection and out of this group, five made it to the finals, in addition to the work by Calixton and Reganion, these are:
“Use of Information Communication Technologies among Ateneo de Zamboanga University Clinical Instructors” by Fatima Hyghia T. Himpon and Dorie Ann Joy C. Jagna-an from Section A with Dr. Mary Sheildred Duterte-Angeles as instructor.
“Efficient Study Techniques of BS Accountancy Academic Scholars in the Ateneo de Zamboanga University” by Faith J. Bangayan, Allein T. Molina and Khryzna G. Tenerife from Section G with Ms. Michelle Celestino-Reyes as instructor.
Another two came from Section F under Mr. Randy A. Magdaluyo:
“Risk Factors and Coping Mechanisms on Homesickness among College Students Living Away from Home in Ateneo de Zamboanga University” by Clarise P. Barcelona, Carra Mae V. Emmanuel and Kurt Jesher D. Recinto.
“The Emergence of Photoshopped Photos on Printed Advertisements and its Effects on the Perception on Standards of Beauty of College Students of Ateneo de Zamboanga University” by Theadale S. Alanan, Shannah Maree Y. Lomboy and Allen Ross L. Sanoria.
Mr. Jayson V. Sabdilon from the Psychology Department, Dr. Minda V. Santos and Mr. Marion B. Guerrero from the Languages Department served as panelist-judges.
Since 2008, the Languages Department has held this competition not only as a fitting culminating activity for the Engl 112n program every second semester but also to recognize excellence in academic writing –the foundation of the university’s thrust in nurturing a culture of research in the Ateneo community.
This year’s edition carried the theme: “Responding to the Challenges of Research” and was held at the Multimedia Room, Xavier Hall on March 14, Friday.
In her welcome remarks, department chair Ms. May Lilian Temple Maravilles aptly described the event –“A celebration of research.”
