The Ateneo de Zamboanga University (ADZU) will launch the La Parroquia, a limited edition coffee table book on December 20, 2011 at the Fort Pilar National Museum at 5:00 P.M. Written by Dr. Aireen B. Arnuco and Ma. Christina A. Cañones to highlight the centenary of the Archdiocese of the Zamboanga, the 200-page book celebrates the triumphs and struggles of the Church in Zamboanga through rare photos of important events and church personalities, timeless memorabilia and personal recollections of the Catholic faithfuls through the years.
This book launch is a culmination of a three-year research project initiated by Fr. Antonio F. Moreno, SJ, ADZU president who served as chair, with the blessing and support of the Archdiocese of Zamboanga under the leadership of The Most Reverend Archbishop Romulo G. Valles, D.D. The authors gathered sources from various church archives and documented oral histories of those who witnessed the founding and expansion of the archdiocese.
Apart from the publication of the book, the project also included lecture series and exhibits on the Church history of Zamboanga last year while a monograph is forthcoming. Drs. Hermenegildo Malcampo and Robert Panaguiton served as contributors to the book while Archbishop Romulo G. Valles, DD, Fr. Albert E. Alejo, SJ, Mr. Hezekiah A. Concepcion, Msgr. Peter V. Garces and Msgr. Crisologo B. Manongas served as readers.
