CSIT Hosts Seminar-Symposium on Climate Change

The College of Science and Information technology sponsored a lecture series on various environmental issues with the theme “Coping with Climate Variability and Change” last September 29-30, 2009 at the Carlos Dominguez Hall, Ateneo de Zamboanga University.

Organized by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Departments and the Samahang Pisika ng Visayas at Mindanao (SPVM), the 2-day seminar-symposium was participated in by different private and public school teachers and barangay representatives from Zamboanga City.

The speakers for the said event included officers from the Office of the City Environment and Natural Resources (OCENR), Department of Environment and Natural Resources – Environment Management Bureau (DENR-EMB) and members of the ADZU Faculty. The lecture series included topics on Solid Waste Management and Integrated Coastal Resources Management, Forest Resource Managemnet, Clean Air Act, and Clean Water Act. Dr. Arnold Alguno, a “Balik-Scientist” awardee of DOST, was also invited to speak on Solar Cell Technology.

The seminar-symposium was held in-line with the observation of the Development Policy Research Month (DPRM) held every September under Proclamation No. 247 which aims to promote nationwide awareness on the importance of policy research for national development.
