Setting the Stage for Another Year of Learning – College of Nursing Attends AdZU Forte

AdZU Forte found its roots during the pandemic—aiming to address the qualms, worries, questions, and fears of the faculty and staff members during the uncertain times of the pandemic. With the resumption of face-to-face classes since 2022 up to the present, the AdZU Community continued this tradition and has been ongoing for years to retool, prime, and prepare faculty members in the upcoming school year.

In line with this, the Ateneo de Zamboanga University- College of Nursing attended the 3-day ADZU Forte along with the different schools and colleges in the Higher Education Unit. This seminar-workshop started from July 21-23, 2025, and was held in the Lantaka Campus, Petit Barracks, Zamboanga City, with topics ranging from internationalization, digital retooling, CERAE, and Quality Assurance, all delivered by renowned speakers known for their expertise in the various fields mentioned.

To sum it up, towards the end of the said seminar-workshop, the faculty and staff of the College of Nursing are ready to face the upcoming school year head-on with new, or perhaps refined knowledge—strengthened by the culture of excellence that AdZU Forte Sessions have tried to cultivate.

Blessings and Beginnings: College of Nursing Conducts Faculty Onboarding and Preparations for PAASCU 2025 Accreditation

With the AdZU Forte sessions inculcating and strengthening the culture of excellence in every Atenean Faculty—these values are continually upheld by the College of Nursing. Ending with a strong note from the previous AdZU Forte Session the previous day (July 23, 2025), the College of Nursing doesn’t seem to stop striving for excellence. To wit, a Blessing for the Newly Renovated College of Nursing Faculty Workroom in the Canisius Hall, Fr Eusebio Salvador SJ Campus. La Purisima Street was conducted on July 24, 2025, which was followed by a PAASCU Meeting the rest of the afternoon. The said meeting was continued the following day, July 25, 2025, with subsequent meetings done on July 28 and 29, 2025, respectively.

The meetings were presided over by the Dean of the College of Nursing, Ms Maria Lorna B Paber RN MN, with the support of the different PAASCU Committee Chairmans. The PAASCU Committee Chairmans reported their progress on the various areas tasked to them to keep the faculty members of the College of

Nursing abreast with the updates to ensure that nobody is left behind in the College’s effort to aim for excellence in the upcoming PAASCU Accreditation.

From OBE to PAASCU: A Return of Guidance and Growth

The Ateneo de Zamboanga University-College of Nursing is back at it again with its quest for seamless and excellent delivery of services for the student body, as guided by the recommendations of the previous PAASCU Visit.

With these recommendations as compass to improve on the delivery of services to the student body, the College of Nursing, under the leadership of Dean Maria Lorna B Paber RN MN invited renowned professor and Dean of the Our Lady of Fatima University, Dean Maria Lisa T Uayan MSN DNSc to guide the college in the PAASCU Preparations.

Despite the cancellation of classes and inclement weather conditions, these circumstances did not let the College deter from persevering in pushing through with the said meeting. This was conducted from August 26 – 27, 2025 at the La Casa Maria, Sta Maria, Zamboanga City.

The meeting began with welcoming remarks from the Dean, and was followed with presentations of the PAASCU Committee Chairmans on the progress of the college for the PAASCU Visit. Feedbacking was done amongst the concerned parties and Dean Uayan was gracious enough to share her knowledge on the areas that needs improvement. Her feedback was received well and will be part of the points to improve on for the receiving body. Exchanges of ideas and thoughts were also done in the course of the meeting.  Nonetheless, the two-day meeting ended positively, with every member filled with sense of direction and purpose as the PAASCU Accreditation visit draws near.

From Theory to Practice: Faculty Deepen Understanding of OBE Framework & Syllabus Crafting

The continuous pursuit of excellence is what fuels the Ateneo de Zamboanga University College of Nursing to strive for more. Under the leadership of Dean Maria Lorna B Paber RN MN, and the support of her administrators, the College of Nursing invited renowned leader and professor, Dean Maria Luisa T Uayan MSN DNSc, from the Our Lady of Fatima University (OFLU) to share her expertise, knowledge, and experience in Outcomes-Based Education (OBE) and Syllabus Crafting.

The seminar-workshop pushed through on June 8, 2023, in the Campion Lecture Hall, Fr. Eusebio Salvador SJ Campus. During the said seminar-workshop, Dean Uayan guided the faculty through the goals of Outcomes-Based Education which aims to enhance the students’ experience in learning. She also walked through the 14 Program Outcomes of the College of Nursing, as stipulated in CHEd Memorandum 15, s. 2017, whether these program outcomes are met, partially met or needed to be addressed. The syllabi of the different courses in the program were also revisited and examined if they are still relevant with the demands of the course.

Overall, the members of the College of Nursing went home equipped with new knowledge shared by Dr Uayan with renewed fervor for teaching and the realization that the journey towards upholding the standards of the College of Nursing cannot be done alone and rests on the idea of camaraderie with everyone involved in the nursing education
