The Ateneo de Zamboanga University (AdZU) continues to deepen its commitment to global engagement through the intensified implementation of SPARK COIL (Collaborative Online International Learning), an innovative approach to internationalization that bridges classrooms across countries through purposeful virtual collaboration. By engaging students and faculty in co-designed modules, joint discussions, and intercultural exchange, SPARK COIL fosters the development of global competencies while remaining grounded in local realities and contexts.
In preparation for this initiative, a coordination meeting was convened with Ms Renee Vieve Kanindot, Ms Jacklyn Tarroza, Mr Romeo Rabajante, Dr Lei Rabajante, Ms Perla Ledesma, and Br Jeffrey Pioquinto SJ. The discussion centered on the upcoming SPARK COIL Champions Training scheduled on April 22-23, 2026, for the AdZU community. The training aims to equip faculty members with the necessary knowledge, skills, and pedagogical tools to effectively design and implement COIL courses, thereby fostering meaningful and sustained collaboration with international partner institutions.
The intensification of SPARK COIL marks a significant step in advancing the University’s thrust of “Charting Global Paths,” where global engagement is intentionally linked to local action. Through this initiative, students are not only exposed to diverse perspectives and cultures but are also challenged to translate their learning into responsive actions that address real-world concerns within their communities. In doing so, global education becomes more inclusive, accessible, and transformative.
More than an academic endeavor, SPARK COIL is a mission that calls educators to reimagine teaching and learning as a shared and borderless pursuit. Forming individuals who are globally aware, socially responsible, and committed to service.
