This year the CGCO is turning more proactive in its counseling service. What used to be the voluntary First Visit is now changed into the required Intake Interview for Freshmen and Transferees. What’s the difference?
For the First Visit, students were simply introduced to their counselor and oriented to the programs and services that they could avail from their counselor. The aim of the First Visit was for the counselor to build rapport with students, as well as to help students become aware of the resources available to them when they needed help in times of distress. Students could come in groups of three for the First Visit. The First Visit was not a requirement for the student’s clearance at the
The Intake Interview however aims to do more than that. It still aims to help counselors build rapport with students, but since it is an hour-long structured interview, it also seeks to help counselors gain more information about the individual students, so as to help them know which students may need further intervention through counseling or other services of the office. Students who will not undergo the Intake Interview will not be cleared for enrollment until they have the

We know that the adjustment period of freshman students and transferees may be challenging and even difficult. At times, they may not know whom to turn to for concerns. Que says that the CGCO is also looking into a procedure where students can set appointments online. However, this is still in the development stage. Right now, students have to go to the CGCO to set their appointments. Setting of appointments have been done since early July. Intake Interviews will be open to students throughout the school year.
